Description

MSRC's 500 bbl and 3000 bbl Towable Storage Bladders (TSBs) are essentially cylindrical, flexible fabric containers which float on the water's surface and receive recovered oil for storage and transport. They are intended as interim storage equipment to support on-water skimming operations, particularly with MSRC's vessel-of-opportunity skimmer systems (VOSS).

Handling/Operation

MSRC's TSBs are stored on pallets or in crates that can be loaded in standard shipping containers, readily mobilized to spill sites, deployed into the water, and either placed on an OSRV/OSRB or towed by small boats to an offshore location, to receive, transport and discharge recovered oil. Since TSBs do not have installed transfer systems, when filled off- shore, TSBs can be offloaded to an OSRV/OSRB by connecting a DOP-250 positive displacement pump to the bladder discharge. A lifting system on the OSRV/OSRB is needed to connect the transfer pump/hose together and maneuver the TSB to facilitate oil flow to the pump. Alternatively, the TSB can be towed to the shoreline and emptied by transferring to tanker or vacuum trucks. In support of on-shore or near-shore skimming operations, when properly secured and bermed on the beach, TSBs are suitable for storing oil ashore. When filled on-shore, the bladders will remain stationary until they can be emptied by transferring to tanker or vacuum trucks.
