Description

The GT-185 is a stationary weir skimmer that can be hauled by two people. A three pontoon floating system provides seaworthiness in open ocean conditions, but it is also capable of skimming in shallow water. This type of skimmer is very effective in the latter stages of clean up where pockets of oil remain in shallow water areas that larger skimmers cannot effectively operate. The skimmer has a large suction opening that allows heavy oil to enter into the hopper. An Archimedean screw pump is fitted with multiple cutter heads for handling debris.

* NOTE: THE (A) DESIGNATION REFLECTS THE ADDITION OF AN OLEOPHILIC BRUSH ADAPTER WHICH CAN BE USED IN LIEN OF THE WEIR SKIMMER, MAKING THE GT-185 A MORE VERSATILE SKIMMER.

Handling/Operation

This skimmer is well suited for use on smaller VOSS vessels because its relative low weight would not require heavy hoisting capabilities at sea. The heaviest portion of the VOSS skimming system would be the power pack which could be loaded on board with a shoreside crane. It can be deployed from docks or vessels. It is versatile because of its relative light weight, capability to handle all types of oil, and its ability to operate off-shore and in shallow water.
